Starstyle® Spin:

   Napoleon Hill was correct - the time is never just right so we need to learn that the best way to start is just to start.  It’s been a few months now since I have been asked to write a Starstyle® newsletter.  Everyday more exciting news comes my way and I keep thinking I must wait to add more to the newsletter.  The reality is that the longer I wait, the longer the newsletter gets, so I finally am taking Nike’s advice to just do it.  So welcome to Starstyle® Spin where I’ll keep you updated on what’s happening in the Starstyle® Studio while providing tools to help you be the stars of your own performance-life.

Life is Beautiful!
   Several years ago a reporter interviewed me for a feature article and after hearing my story asked the question, "With so much tragedy in your life, how do you keep on smiling?"  My answer was simple - I have a choice.  We can choose to be happy or we can choose to be melancholy. I choose joy. As my long time friend, Irish priest Father Pat McGrath says, “no one gets out of this life alive- so we better make the most of it.”   As  an actor I know that every action incurs a corresponding reaction.  How we respond to the good, bad, and ugly that happens to us everyday is the determining factor in our happiness quotient.  Since I prefer happy, I have programmed myself to be an optimist. Even when the going gets rough, I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not a train coming straight at me as others have commented to me.  Sure I have my bad days.  In those times, I give myself permission to wallow in my pain and plan a pity party. I’ll rant, rave, cry, get angry, whatever it takes to feel it fully.  Then, I move on and choose to see the positive in the situation.  Every problem and every challenge is a blessing if we look at them as a lesson.  When we learn from our mistakes, there are no errors as we have gained new insight. Since I’m a gardener, I coined a phrase that applies here “failure is fertilizer”.  There are no failures when you make compost of your mistake to grow a new garden.  When you are feeling sorry for yourself, volunteer somewhere where people are hospitalized, hungry, homeless, or illiterate. When you help others, you’ll be grateful for what you already have.  Life is beautiful. Cherish the moment and la vita bella.  And if you need happiness or success coaching, I’m available.  Smile, have fun, and be happy.

Star Spotting: Google Alerts
   A couple of weeks ago I received an email from best-selling author David Bach (www.finishrich.com) congratulating me on being interviewed in the feature story on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle.  I didn't know what he was talking about as I was away at Lake Austin Spa and Resort in Austin, Texas where my daughter, Heather Brittany, and I were the enrichment lecturers.  I emailed David Bach and asked him to send me details.  Dave Murphy who was chronicling the stress of children wrote the superb article.  As an expert in coaching children for acting and self esteem, Dave had interviewed me about my experiences.  David Bach then told me how to use the free Google alert system to stay updated on when I was in the press.
   What’s a Google Alert? It’s an e-mail on a subject or subjects of your choosing that is sent to you daily or weekly.  Signing up is simple and I recommend it to all writers, authors, and people who are in the media as a tracking system.  Go to www.Google.com.  Click on “More” which is located on the right above the search box.  Under Google Services, you’ll see “Alerts. Receive news and search results via e-mail.”  Click on that area.  You will then see a box titled “create a Google Alert.”  Follow the prompts and you are all set.  Since I’ve set up my Google Alert, it has come to my attention that I am being quoted, published, and listed in numerous venues.  So thank you, David, for this Starstyle® Super Tool!  Hope it helps you all too!

StarStyle® Safety - Protect Your Identity
   If you want to protect yourself against becoming the next victim of identity theft, you'll want to properly dispose of any document that may have your Social Security number or birth date on it such as insurance policies, tax returns, and bank statements.
   Every year more than 3 million Americans learn that credit card accounts have been falsely opened in their name.  More than 400,000 of these crimes are traced to mail being taken from mail boxes or trash cans. Shred, burn, and tear up your important documents that are no longer needed.  Do not put them in the trash.
   If you would like to have your name removed from many of the lists that send you this junk mail in the first place, try the following:

• Remove your name from mortgage refinancing and home equity loan offers by calling the Acxiom U. S. Consumer Hotline at 877-774-2094.  You may also send a letter to Dataquick, Attention Opt-Out Department, 9620 Towne Center Drive, San Diego, California 92121

• To remove your name from lists sold to credit card companies, call 888-567-8688

• Contact The Direct Marketing Association, Mail Preference Service, PO Box 643, Carmel, New York 10510 and request that your information be taken off their lists.

   It can take as long as five years to clear your name and your credit once your identity has been stolen.  Don’t volunteer to be a victim. Be proactive and aware. Protect yourself today.

StarStyle® Studio - What's Happening
   Despite a hectic schedule, I am celebrating every moment here at Starstyle®. To date, 2005 has been a creative and prosperous year with much good news in the future forecast. My goals were written down the first week of January and I’m checking them off as they are accomplished.  Here are a few of my highlights:
   1. I am in the running for a STARRING role in the new feature film, Moonlight Sonata, directed by Celik Kayalar.  It’s a thriller so I am not allowed to reveal the plot, however, the audition process has been one of the most professional and delightful of my career.  Auditioning at the studio with good lighting, sound, and the full compliment of decision makers, not only casting directors, was truly an awesome experience for which I am grateful.  And what’s even better, my daughter, Heather Brittany, is up for the lead role to play my daughter.  We won’t know anything more until the end of summer, but we have a great feeling about this.  Stay tuned!
   2. Speaking of my daughter, this Mother/Daughter Dynamic Duo, “The Stella Donne” enjoyed a totally successful presentation over Mother’s Day weekend at the updated and beautiful Lake Austin Spa and Resort in Austin, Texas.  This was my third return trip as a speaker.  We love everyone and everything about that rejuvenating resort and await our return next year.  If you want to have your body, mind, and soul rejuvenated, try Lake Austin Spa and Resort. www.lakeaustin.com.

   3. It was just announced that an article I wrote about my grandfather, Fred Abruzzini, titled “The Wine Show Man” has won  4^th place in the Southern California Genealogical Society website at www.scgsgenealogy.com.  It will be published in their anthology book later this year. Feels terrific to be celebrating my Italian heritage.
   4. Speaking of my grandfather, on May 25,  a park in Napa was dedicated in his honor as “The Father of Napa Valley Wine Tourism”.  My family, cousins, and friends were all in attendance to celebrate his incredible life. The park sits on land once owned by grandpa and grandma who entertained some of the biggest names in Hollywood during the 1930s, '40s and '50s when he was the general manager and wine master of Beringer Vineyards in St. Helena.  Clark Gable, Carol Lombard, Max Baer, Tom Mix, and a host of stars and dignitaries from around the world came to sample the wine and eat the great Italian food grandpa would prepare in their honor.  Of course, he gave them big publicity, too, in front of the barrels.  “All roads lead to Napa Valley and Beringer” was his often quoted motto.
   "He was the first to bring tourism to the wineries," Bill Knox, chair of Napa's Parks and Recreation Commission and a retired Beringer public relations executive recalled.
   Grandpa gave birth to the wine-based tourism that shapes the economic life of the Napa Valley we all cherish today. Thank you, Bill, for commemorating grandpa’s contribution to the wine business. The chapter, The Gift of Determination, in my book, Be the Star You Are! recounts the tale of his humble beginnings with an eighth grade education to his rise as an expert promoter and legend in the California wine industry.
   5. My next book, Daddy’s Hands, Mommy’s Heart, Children’s Memories-the Nine Blessings of Family, has been acquired by esteemed literary agent Jim Schiavone in New York.  Two other books are also forthcoming.  Not only is the agency top notch, but Jim is also Italian!
   6. Heather and I are the editors/advisors for Your Success at Your Life Magazine.  Check out this fabulous magazine for women.    7.    My mom always shouted, “basta! basta!” whenever we had had enough of a good thing. I bid thee farewell as this is definitely ENOUGH tidings for one newsletter.
